Aidan Flatt

A rocky first half but East Coast to victory

East Coast visited UEA with confidence after a very strong performance against Norwich City 4's the prior week. The team travelled in numbers this week with a starting line up of Gary Croft, Aidan Flatt, Chris Sturley, Jamie Ayers, Matt Eagle, Jamie Mortimer, Troy Allen, Michael Cookson, Sam Binks, Dan Croft and Rob Hall. The bench was made of Chris Ward, Max Riches, Milo Wright-Murray and Simon Cottingham looking to make an impact.

East Coast started the game very strong and should have made their pressure count early on. The wing backs pushed forward with Jamie Mortimer feeding the ball to midfield and forwards with Dan Croft unlucky not to put the ball away with smart positioning on a couple of occasions in the first ten minutes.

UEA put up a good fight and after soaking up early pressure caused problems of their own. Some strong defending from Jamie Ayres and Matt Eagle down the centre kept the ball out of the danger zones, Gary Croft pulled off some excellent saves when called upon.

Towards the end of the half, perhaps due to the team struggling to settle, East Coast struggled to keep up the fiery tempo of the opening stages and went into the break 0-0.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when Dan Croft turned the ball in to give East Coast the lead early on in the second half. Following some neat passes, a ball from Troy Allen found its way into the D for the striker to do the rest.

Shortly after the opening goal it was 2. A vintage Sam Binks run down the left saw the ball bobble around the keeper and Chris Sturley finished with perfection. It was much deserved after a noitceably positive approach following a frustrating first half.

Honourable mentions should go to Rob Hall, Simon Cottingham and Mikey Cookson for their work rate and determination in midfield to keep the oppoistion without answers.

The nail in the coffin came in the 60th minute. Troy Allen found the ball in the D and a powerful shot found its way in the goal.

The final whistle blew for a 3-0 win for East Coast Hockey Club. It was much deserved after a solid performance. The blues look to make it another positive result against Bury 4's next time out.
