East Coast travelled to Kings Lynn, facing bottom of the table Pelicans in a must win game for the travelling side.
In the opening moments, end to end game play ensued and both teams made early threats upon goal. The midfield of Claire Ward, Desi Reed, Charlotte Soanes and Becky Ingles battled to keep possession. Their hard work was rewarded when Claire Scrivener found Vic King in the D, who’s initial strike was stopped on the line by an opposition foot. Jan Tizzard stepped up to take the resulting penalty flick, and confidently tucked the ball away for East Coast to edge into the lead.
Pelicans were undeterred by the goal, and launched a prolonged attack on the East Coast goal. Sharon Chatfield, Katie Cross and Jan Tizzard stood firm, and keeper Trudie Rhodes made some valuable saves.
As East Coast once again regained control, the forward line of Vic King, Kiri Phoenix and Claire Scrivener forced multiple defensive errors. King utilised her silky stick skills to dribble the ball unchallenged into the goal, adding another to East Coast’s tally.
As half time approached, Pelicans however once again launched their own attack, and pulled a goal back.
After the break, East Coast stood firm to try and hold onto their both deserved and much needed points. As the second half was drawing to a close, play became frantic. ICE sub Kelly Martin came close to wrapping the game up but was denied by the Pelican’s keeper.
